Still looking – Dhahran Hills
The lack of water in the percolation pond
appears to be having a big effect on the number and type of birds we are seeing
on the ‘patch’. The only water is in the drainage ditch and settling pond and
these areas have maintained the largest number of species. Most are waders
including Wood Sandpiper, Green Sandpiper, Little Stint and Marsh Sandpiper.
Several Common Moorhens and two Little Grebes are still on the settling pond.
Large numbers of Kentish Plovers were on the dried up bed of the percolation
pond along with two Arabian Red Foxes but very little else. Probably the best
bird seen has been a European Roller, not too exciting for the effort put in.
Still there is always tomorrow to find something better.
